An objection challenges a proposed inclusion or seeks deletion of an existing entry on a legally relevant ground. It is different from applying to include one’s own missing name, correcting one’s existing particulars or seeking restoration after an adverse decision. This page is limited to the objection procedure.
ECI identifies Form 7 as the application for objection to proposed inclusion or deletion of a name from an existing electoral roll. Form 6 is for registration as a new voter. Form 8 covers shifting, correction of an existing entry, EPIC replacement and PwD marking.
If the problem concerns your own misspelled name or address, an objection may be the wrong route. If your own name is absent, first establish whether the matter requires new inclusion, implementation of an earlier order, appeal or another procedure.
Obtain the relevant draft or existing roll extract. Record the constituency, part number, serial number and the particulars of the entry. Avoid filing against a person based only on a similar name or informal information.
An objection should identify the factual and legal basis relied on. Relevant circumstances may include death, shifting, duplicate registration or lack of ordinary residence, depending on the facts and governing law. Unsupported or knowingly false allegations can have serious consequences.
Attach only material relevant to the stated ground. Keep a complete copy of the form, annexures and source records. If information came from an official roll or notice, preserve that version and its date.
Use the channel permitted for the current revision—online, before the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, through a designated location, or another officially notified method. Not every step in every revision is necessarily available online.
Save the application reference, dated receipt or portal acknowledgement. Monitor communications at the address, phone number, email or portal account provided. A screenshot should supplement, not replace, the official acknowledgement where one is issued.
The authority may verify facts, seek documents or provide an opportunity to affected persons. Attend when required, submit a concise written statement and retain proof. Fairness applies to both the objector and the person whose entry may be affected.
Request or download the complete order where available. Verify whether the roll reflects the decision. If the order is adverse, identify the statutory remedy, competent appellate authority and applicable period from the current legal framework and order. Do not assume a generic tribunal label.
For the broader workflow, see the voter-list revision stages. For notice and hearing safeguards, read citizen rights during revision. For correction rather than objection, use the guide to correcting an existing roll entry.
The result depends on evidence and the governing provisions. Article 226 review is not automatic and requires assessment of jurisdiction, maintainability, alternative remedies, delay and the relief sought.
